About Me

Hi and welcome to my website. My name is Kathy Worley, owner of The Right Touch Massage, in Short Pump, on the far west end of Richmond. I am a Certified Massage Therapist and a licensed Esthetician. I truly love this work! I opened my massage therapy business in 2002.  Even though it is a business and my full-time profession, I don't think of it as work.  I treat my clients as though they are good friends and I am so grateful for each one.

I am truly passionate about massage therapy and body work as a holistic approach to health. I feel very blessed to be able to follow my passion, get paid for it and be of value to others.  I have found through experience that stress is a major link in the deterioration of the body. Many first timers to massage walk away surprised to the benefits of massage and how effective body work really is.  Massage is one of the best forms of prevention medicine. Below under modalities you'll find some of the modalities that I have trained in.  You can learn more about each modality by clicking on my Links page here or at the left hand sidebar.

Massage and Bodywork has been an incredible journey for me. It has allowed me to discover and learn through personal experience some of these simple truths:

  • Most chronic migraine conditions can be alleviated through specific massage work including Myofascial Release Therapy, Body Memory Recall and relaxation massage.

  • Chronic SI Joint dysfunction or SIJD which I suffered with for 12 years because it was undiagnosed by over a dozen health professionals, can be and in my case healed with Advanced Myoskeletal techniques, Active Isolated Stretching and proper corrective exercises. My own healing journey allowed me to learn first hand from various gifted professionals.

  • Carpal Tunnel and Plantar Fasciitis problems can be relieved and corrected with nerve mobilization techniques, myofascial release therapy and muscle work. Some folks get in a hurry and rush to surgery to correct this problem when it can be corrected with manual therapy. I also work in conjunction with a local Acupuncturist for some of the more stubborn cases. It simply takes dedication to therapy, self discipline and patience.

  • With regular massage you will notice how much more relaxed you are and how much easier your body functions. Did you ever feel something was just not right with your body, you weren't sick, maybe just a little irritable, making bad desicions.....it might just mean you need a massage.

  • Athletes perform better and have less injuries with regular massage. Athletes push their bodies so hard and Sports Massage, Active Isolated Stretching, Myofascial Release and relaxation massage help them stay flexible and in tune with their body better.

  • Pent up emotions from situations that we have not dealt with in our lives, no matter distant, will hold as trapped energy patterns in the body that can cause disease, holding patterns, stress and drain us of energy. Most people are not even aware this is happening until it releases and their world starts to change.  Awareness and letting go is a big part of healing. Body Memory Recall, Myofascial Release, BodyTalk, Qigong and relaxation massage all have the ability to help free the body of these patterns and allow the body to balance naturally.

  • Emotions release hormones. Relaxation hormones are good for the body but the cortisol hormone induced by stress is harmful to the body.  A study done at Duke Univeristy Medical Center showed that massage decreased the levels of coritsol and increased the levels of dopamine and serotonin in the participants. • Massage helps you be more aware of your body and to better read your body so you can hopefully address and avoid issues before they manifest into major problems or disease.

  • Some scoliosis can be corrected through a combination of Advanced Myoskeletal Techniques, Myofascial Release, Qigong practice and specific exercises.

  • Fibromyalgia is a tricky "disease" because there is usually not one root cause.  Massage and bodywork can play a huge roll in the healing progress. Some fibromyalgia clients require deep tissue work, yet others require light myofascial work or myofascial cranial work, or lymphatic drainage, but some times energy work is all that can done that session. Usually the immune system is weak, the body is very toxic, detoxification pathways are slow or blocked, nutritional absorption is low. Usually one is in a coping mode and has higher emotional stress and depression levels. Although these conditions need to be dealt with too they are not in my scope.

  • Chronic pain can cause depression.  Depression can cause chronic pain.  It doesn't matter which came first the chicken or the egg.  What matters most is giving them equal consideration.  When the body is released of pain, depression may decrease or go away. Some of the pain we experience can come from the subconscious mind and is suppressed in the tissues of the body causing energetic and physical holding patterns.  Body Memory Recall, Massage, BodyTalk, Myofascial Release and Qigong are all helpful in dealing with subconscious holding patterns.

  • In healing, energy follows the mind. Positive thoughts and visualizations are very powerful self healing tools that we all possess and should use. I work with clients to help them develop this technique to heal.

  • Qigong practice can improve your posture and increase your life force. The practice is very meditative and increases energy. I was made a believer when this practice alone released a stubborn rotational scoliosis in my thoracic spine that had been there for years. I practice daily and can show others this simple but powerful practice in private or a group setting.
